SAVING FAITH

SAVING FAITH

TEXT: EPHESIANS 2: 8-9

The grace and love of God packaged free and full salvation for all mankind. The scripture says, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” (Titus 2:11) KJV.
“For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people” (NLT). In Romans 5:8, we read: “But God commandeth his love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (KJV). “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (NLT).

Every human being is expected to embrace or appropriate this salvation God has brought through faith in Christ. “For by grace are ye saved through faith (in Christ) and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2: 8-9) KJV. God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this, it is a gift from God.” (NLT).

When one is saved or has believed in Jesus as Saviour, there are indicators to that effect. The expression of love and obedience toward the Saviour and service to others must come to play. Saving faith cannot possibly avoid these vital expressions. The apostle Paul said to Philemon, his son in the faith, “I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints (Philemon 4-5) KJV.

“I always thank my God when I pray for you, Philemon because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people” (NLT). Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:13 (KJV). “Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me – a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus (NLT)”. Love must accompany true saving faith in Christ. Faith that merely trusts God for the forgiveness of one’s sins, but does not include genuine or sincere repentance from sin and active commitment to Christ as Lord falls short of New Testament standard of saving Faith. That could amount to playing religion. Does your faith and love for Christ, and service to others go together?
